COMMUNITY SAFETY
-
Responsibility
It begins with you.
The HHCA is not an extension of law enforcement but we can work with the available resources to help make Heritage Hills safe and enjoyable for everyone. These are the biggest issues we hear about in our community:
* Traffic * Pets * Noise

Clean Up
Through effort and cooperation we can keep Heritage Hills safer by keeping it clean.
Heritage Hills pick up days are:
Wednesdays = Waste (black) & Recycling (blue)
Thursdays = Organics (green)
* follow the guidelines for bin placement and keep those lids closed.
Good Neighbours:
Join in the annual clean up event and pick up litter all year round.
* Use gloves, especially if picking up something sharp.
* Don’t touch drug-related items = report it to Municipal Enforcement.
* Stay visible - don’t walk into the road or onto someone else’s property.
Dog Poo:
* It is unlawful to leave dog waste in public areas. This attracts coyotes and spreads disease.
* Be sure to keep your dog on leash so you can recover their waste, and prevent unwanted interactions.
* If you need help clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk around your property there are options for help.
* Consider eco- and pet-friendly de-icing products to keep toxins out of the environment.
-
Traffic
Speeding:
* The speed limit in the entire community is 30km/hr.
Signs:
* Your wheels must stop moving for 3 seconds at all stop signs.
* Yield to those who have the right-of-way.
School Busses:
* You must not pass school busses when their red are flashing lights and stop signs are deployed.
Parking:
* Stay clear of fire hydrants and cross walks.
Pedestrians:
* Watch for pedestrians on all roads and crosswalks. Pedestrians always have the right of way.
Bikes:
* “Share the Road” means cyclists must follow all the same traffic laws as vehicles, and vehicles must take extra care with more vulnerable users.

Construction Zone
Some residents have been living in Heritage Hills for 15 years, but the community is still growing and under development. This brings unique challenges to our community.
Noise - Current by-laws allow construction work between 7:00am to 10:00pm.
Traffic - Construction workers and other visitors increase traffic in our community.
If you see traffic concerns such as careless driving, speeding, or running stop signs, please report to Municipal Enforcement.
Safe Worksites - contacting the home builders and/or developer directly can bring issues of safety to their attention.

Fire Smart
Backyard Firepits:
Follow these guideline for building your backyard fire pit:

Wildlife
Heritage Hills is on the western edge of Cochrane and we often see wildlife roaming our green spaces including bears, deer, coyotes, skunks, and owls.
* enjoy these animals from a distance and keep dogs on leash
* be sure to clean up dog waste and food waste from your yard and all public spaces
* clean up bird seed and bring in bird feeders in the spring
* clean up fruit in the fall - there are organizations that will take them to animal sanctuaries
